Six Months Old

At Six Months Old Abigail...

...sleeps a straight 8-9 hours at night (11-12 hours total).  She has her bath at 7:45 and plays awhile in the tub. I wash her hair and body with her laying in her newborn tub and then sit her up and she plays with her squirty toys and cups. The bath is usually over when she is wrinkly, I am sick of sitting on the floor or she reaches down to taste the water and comes up sputtering and upset. Then she nurses and is usually asleep by 8:30/8:45. She typically takes an hour nap in the late morning and an hour nap in the afternoon. She has been fighting naps lately because for three reasons: 1. she's sleeping so good and long during the night, 2. she likes to play so much, and 3. she instantly rolls over anytime I lay her on her tummy and then gets roaring mad. Update: At her doctor appointment today her pediatrician commented on how swollen her upper gums are and that her top teeth will be through any day now. Hence the battle over sleep lately...

...eats Mama's Milk and just started rice cereal. She'll nurse 4-6 times a day and she just started having rice cereal in the morning and afternoon. She still has those two teeth on the bottom and no more (so much for my prediction of her teething last month!). She also had her first taste of red licorice this past week. She was in her walker while I was sewing and she can pull the snack basket off the low shelf in the kitchen. She likes to hear the crinkle and chew the plastic bags so I just let her play with it. Not anymore! She somehow got the Ziploc bag open and then a piece of licorice out of the package. She was so mad when I took it from her. It probably didn't help that I ate it in front of her. It was the sweetest chew toy she'd found so far!

...plays with everything she can reach and it all ends up in her mouth! She is sitting now and loves this new "view". She looks at all her toys spread out around her and chooses which one to play with (most of the time it's a non-toy object, like my cell phone or the remote control). She likes her exersaucer and bounces in it so hard that it makes a lot of racket! She also loves her walker and she cruises around in it. We had to put a gate up by our stairway so she wouldn't fall down the stairs. We still lay her on her tummy to play so she'll start pushing herself up on her knees. She uses her arms really well but doesn't get her butt up in the air like she would to start crawling yet. That's okay; I'm enjoying her playing on her own and staying right where I lay her.

She is such a happy girl. She smiles and laughs all the time. We can even get her to do a good chuckle if we tickle her tummy or back. She's kind of slap happy when she's tired at night too. Her favorite toy is still Sophie the giraffe. We lost the giraffe for a few days at a friend's house and when she got it back she was so excited, she squealed and lunged for it!

...wears 6-9 and 9-12 months clothes, size 1 and 2 shoes, and size 3 diapers. We still wear cloth diapers during the daytime when we're at home. I lost the motivation to EC with her because it turned cold and she has so much clothes on her. ha ha

...weighs 17 lbs. 11 oz. (80th percentile).
She is 26.5 inches long (80th percentile).
Her head is 42.1 cm/16.57 inches (50th percentile).

Here is her five month post.
